Football Recap: Cohasset Takes Down Leicester in a Playoff Battle

Cohasset had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They strolled past the Leicester Wolverines with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 35-17. Given the Skippers' advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts football rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Wolverines are ranked 144th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Gus Greene, who rushed for 264 yards and three TDs while picking up 10.6 yards per carry. His rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 123 rushing yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cohasset was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 330 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 153 rushing yards in ten consecutive games dating back to last season.

Another reason for the win was Cohasset's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Nicholas Askjaer was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He is becoming a predictor of Cohasset's success: when he posts at least one sack the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). The Skippers got some further help from Daniel Baker: he picked up a sack and made 13 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Although Leicester took the loss, they still got scores from Yerriel Santiago and Jeremiah Kinsumba.

Cohasset's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Leicester, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-3.

Cohasset didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 42-6 victory against Rockland on the 14th. As for Leicester, they have also already played their next contest, a 41-20 win against Bartlett on the 14th.
