Baseball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is Chiles' Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Chiles had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Bishop Kenny on Saturday. Chiles was the clear victor by a 10-3 margin over Bishop Kenny. The result was nothing new for the Timberwolves, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Jake Gardner tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Myles-Mott Smith was a standout: he scored a run while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Preston Ritchie, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.

Chiles kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Chiles is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. Bishop Kenny is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.

Chiles and Bishop Kenny could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Chiles will square off against South Walton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday down 98 places (103 vs. 5). Meanwhile, Bishop Kenny (ranked 332nd) will meet Columbia (ranked 47th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
