Baseball Recap: Central Christian Drops Highest Score of Season Against East Hill Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Central Christian). Everything went their way against the East Hill Christian Eagles on Tuesday as they made off with a 28-1 win. The Saints haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Peyton Bond made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was even better at the plate, scoring five runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Central Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Beckett Simpson, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, six RBI, and three runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Helms, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Central Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 12.

Central Christian's win bumped their record up to 4-6. As for East Hill Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Coming up, Central Christian will welcome Trinitas Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Central Christian's pitchers better be ready for this one: Trinitas Christian has averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for East Hill Christian, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Gulf Pointe Latin at 4:30 p.m. on the 11th.
