Baseball Game Preview: Cumberland Clippers vs. South Kingstown Rebels

Cumberland is 2-8 against South Kingstown since June of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Clippers will head out on the road to take on the Rebels at 4:15 p.m. Cumberland will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Cumberland's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Smithfield by a score of 4-0.

Not much got past Liam Monahan, who gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks to keep Smithfield off the board.

At the plate, Tyler Hurteau was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. Josh Lyon was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, South Kingstown earned a 7-3 victory over Cranston West on Friday. The Rebels haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Michael DiGioia, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Noonan, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Cumberland's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 7.3 runs this season. As for South Kingstown, their record now sits at 2-0.

Cumberland couldn't quite finish off South Kingstown in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Clippers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
