Preview: St. Xavier Bombers vs. Archbishop Moeller Fighting Crusaders
St. Xavier is 1-9 against Archbishop Moeller since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The St. Xavier Bombers will head out on the road to take on the Archbishop Moeller Fighting Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Saturday, St. Xavier was able to grind out a solid win over Wyoming, taking the game 50-37. The win made it back-to-back wins for St. Xavier.
St. Xavier can attribute much of their success to Dominic Sidoti, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Reilly, who scored 13 points along with two blocks.
St. Xavier's lineup was just a bit different on Saturday as Sidoti got a bit more time on the court (29 vs. his season average of 11.5). Sidoti made the most of the opportunity, scoring 12 points. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Moeller entered their tilt with Mason with nine consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with ten. Archbishop Moeller snuck past Mason with a 42-38 victory on Tuesday. Given Archbishop Moeller's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Mason is ranked 186th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Xavier's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. As for Archbishop Moeller, their win bumped their record up to 19-1.
St. Xavier came up short against Archbishop Moeller in their previous meeting back in January, falling 56-46. Can St. Xavier avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
