Basketball Recap: Cotton Center Sets Scoring Season-High Against Amherst

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cotton Center). They came out on top against the Amherst Bulldogs by a score of 43-33 on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Elks as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Leading Cotton Center to victory were Kylee Prutzman and Rachel Walden. Prutzman dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Walden went 5 for 10 en route to 14 points along with seven boards and five assists. What's more, Prutzman also racked up five blocks, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Serenity Hartless was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to six boards and five steals.

Cotton Center smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Cotton Center's victory ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-18. As for Amherst, they dropped their record down to 0-18 with the defeat, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.

Cotton Center will welcome Meadow at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Amherst, they will head out to face off against Whitharral at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Whitharral will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Amherst surely won't give up without a fight.
