Recap: Tupelo Golden Wave vs. Clinton Arrows
The Tupelo Golden Wave won against the Clinton Arrows last Thursday with 42 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. Tupelo enjoyed a cozy 42-28 win over Clinton. Given Tupelo's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Clinton is ranked 49th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tupelo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jeremiah Harrell, who threw for 278 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt. Jaeden Hill was in the mix too, providing Tupelo with two touchdowns.
Tupelo's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Jareylan Mccoy and his three sacks.
The victory (which was Tupelo's third in a row) raised their record to 7-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-7 Clinton and 4-5 Germantown (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.8% over those games). As for Clinton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tupelo will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Starkville at 7:00 p.m. on November 2nd. As for Clinton, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Germantown at 7:00 p.m. Germantown is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
