Softball Recap: Thursday's Loss Ends Smyrna's Winning Streak

Smyrna dropped their record down to 4-3 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell 7-2 to the Polytech Panthers. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Polytech, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

For Polytech's part, Madison Frazier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on one hit.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emma Shelton, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. She also put up a stolen base, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Danica Humphries, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and two doubles.

Looking ahead, Smyrna will host Mardela at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. As for Polytech, they will venture away from home to square off against Middletown at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
