Baseball Recap: New London-Spicer Gets the Win

New London-Spicer won the last time they faced Watertown-Mayer and things went their way on Monday too. The Wildcats came out on top against the Royals by a score of 8-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Andres Rojas made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Rojas was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Kaden Toutges tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

Rojas wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nolan Johnson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave Johnson a new career-high. Rylan Shimek also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

New London-Spicer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Watertown-Mayer only posted a batting average of .167.

New London-Spicer's record now sits at 12-7. As for Watertown-Mayer, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.

New London-Spicer and Watertown-Mayer could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings. The Wildcats (ranked 71st) will meet Montevideo (ranked 17th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Watertown-Mayer will take on Rockford at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (115 vs. 5).
