Football Recap: Gilman Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Gilman can now relate to. They were beaten by the Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers 35-8 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Greyhounds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland football rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Cavaliers are ranked third).

Bryan Curtis threw for 78 yards and one touchdown. Zane Krikstan was his top target, picking up 41 receiving yards and one score.

This is the second loss in a row for Gilman and nudges their season record down to 4-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-2 McDonogh (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 79.8% over those games). As for Archbishop Spalding, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-2.

Gilman does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Archbishop Spalding, they will challenge McDonogh at 7:00 p.m. on the 15th. The Eagles' defense has only allowed 14.7 points per game this season, so the Cavaliers' offense will have their work cut out for them.
