Softball Recap: Ironwood Takes a Loss

If Ironwood was feeling good fresh off their 22-8 takedown of Independence last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eagles fell just short of the Sunrise Mountain Mustangs by a score of 20-19 on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost four in a row.

Madelaine Gober led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-6 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. Diana Gallagher also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Ironwood's loss dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Sunrise Mountain, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-8.

Coming up, Sunrise Mountain is taking a road trip to take on Notre Dame Prep at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Saints' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Ironwood will be paying especially close attention to Sunrise Mountain's matchup: after Sunrise Mountain faces off against Notre Dame Prep, they'll take on Ironwood again at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
