Baseball Recap: Salesian's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Salesian's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Monsignor Scanlan Crusaders with a sharp 8-2 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Salesian got a great performance from Andrew Pastrana as he struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Pastrana a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Kristopher Paredez was incredible, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was John Avelino, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Salesian's win bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Monsignor Scanlan, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.

Salesian and Monsignor Scanlan could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Eagles (ranked 218th) will meet Monsignor Farrell (ranked 85th) at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Monsignor Scanlan will face off against St. Raymond Boys at 12:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (211 vs. 37).
