Softball Preview: Welsh Greyhounds vs. Lake Arthur Tigers

The Welsh Greyhounds will head out on the road to take on the Lake Arthur Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Welsh will be strutting in after a win while Lake Arthur will be coming in after a loss.

While Welsh has not struggled against DeQuincy recently, they managed to flip the script on Thursday. Welsh skirted past DeQuincy 6-5. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Welsh as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Alexis Hayes spent all seven innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than six innings in three consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, Kenzie Vanness was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Lake Arthur lost a close one when they played on Tuesday but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Thursday was a bit more commanding. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 18-7 walloping at the hands of Vinton. Lake Arthur has not had much luck with Vinton recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Addison Abshire was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-2 with two runs and a triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendra Simon, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Welsh's win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-16. As for Lake Arthur, their loss dropped their record down to 7-15.

Welsh suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Lake Arthur in their previous matchup back in March. Can Welsh avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
