Basketball Game Preview: Hoehne Farmers vs. La Veta Redhawks

The Hoehne Farmers will head out on the road to challenge the La Veta Redhawks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Hoehne has three straight wins, La Veta has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Hoehne is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Rocky Ford: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Hoehne blew Rocky Ford out of the water with a 76-40 final score. With the Farmers ahead 47-14 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Meanwhile, La Veta played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 65-30 loss at the hands of Springfield. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Redhawks have suffered against the Longhorns since January 24, 2019.

Hoehne will need focus on slowing down Tristan Musgrave, one of several La Veta players who made an impact when they last played. He posted six points in addition to 13 boards and three blocks. With that strong performance, Musgrave is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Vargas, who put up eight points.

Hoehne's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-7. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 27.5 points. As for La Veta, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Hoehne beat La Veta 70-63 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hoehne since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
