Baseball Game Preview: Hoopeston Cornjerkers vs. Armstrong Trojans

The Hoopeston Cornjerkers will venture away from home to square off against the Armstrong Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Neither Hoopeston nor Armstrong posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Saturday just wasn't the day for Hoopeston's offense. They fell 5-0 to Lexington on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Armstrong suffered their closest loss since March 17th on Friday. They fell just short of Milford by a score of 3-1.

Armstrong saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter Freeman, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Armstrong has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-7 record this season. As for Hoopeston, they dropped their record down to 8-17 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Hoopeston couldn't quite finish off Armstrong in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Cornjerkers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
