Softball Recap: Arroyo Beats San Leandro for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Arroyo waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the San Leandro Pirates by a score of 7-4. This was a revenge game for the Dons: when they faced off against the Pirates back in April, they had to take a 2-0 loss.

Sadie Fernandez was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ariana Rocha, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Hailey Howard was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Arroyo pushed their record up to 11-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for San Leandro, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 18-5.
