Recap: Screven County Gamecocks vs. Portal Panthers

The Screven County Gamecocks struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Portal Panthers had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Screven County had to suffer through a rough 90-33 loss at the hands of Portal. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Screven County in their matchups with Portal: they've now lost seven in a row.

Several Gamecocks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rodney Beckwith, who scored six points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Beckwith has scored all season. Drayden Roberts was another key contributor, scoring seven points.

Joseph Thomas was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with six rebounds and three steals for Portal. The contest was Thomas' seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Coleman, who scored 14 points along with six steals.

Screven County has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. As for Portal, their win was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Screven County will face off against Jenkins County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Jenkins County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five games. Portal will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Bryan County at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. Bryan County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 194th, while Portal is ranked 15th).
