Baseball Game Preview: Wheat Ridge Farmers vs. Standley Lake Gators

Wheat Ridge is 2-8 against Standley Lake since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Wheat Ridge will be playing at home against Standley Lake at 4:00 p.m. Wheat Ridge has given up an average of 11.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Last Thursday, Wheat Ridge came up short against Aurora Central and fell 11-6. The Farmers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Zach Martin made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Shane Linder, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Standley Lake earned a 4-1 victory over Conifer on Friday. The Gators haven't had any issues with the Lobos recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Chris Blanco was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (one). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Marc Garcia and Henry Moore did most of the damage at the plate: Garcia scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Moore scored a run while going 1-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Garcia a new career-high in doubles (two). Titus Schrecengost was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Wheat Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Standley Lake, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Wheat Ridge might still be hurting after the 16-4 defeat they got from Standley Lake in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can Wheat Ridge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
