Softball Preview: Line Mountain Eagles vs. Shikellamy Braves

The Line Mountain Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Shikellamy Braves at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Line Mountain is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.

Last Wednesday, Line Mountain was able to grind out a solid victory over Newport, taking the game 7-2.

Madylinn Grindstaff made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits. Grindstaff has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in four consecutive pitching appearances. Grindstaff was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Sofia Coller was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4. Koera Leitzel was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Shikellamy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They had just enough and edged the Wildcats out 4-3.

Shanna Kimball spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Ella Oakes was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Gweneth Wiest, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Line Mountain's record now sits at 6-4. As for Shikellamy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
