Basketball Game Preview: Southwest Patriots vs. Toombs County Bulldogs

The Southwest Patriots will face off against the Toombs County Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Southwest knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 contests -- so hopefully Toombs County likes a good challenge.

Southwest is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They walked away with a 65-52 victory over Temple. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st in Georgia, while the Tigers are ranked 128th in Georgia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

C.J. Howard continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 7-for-12 on his way to 20 points. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (67%). Brandon Ashley was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Meanwhile, Toombs County had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.2 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Indians 46-43.

Southwest is on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.1 points over those games. Toombs County's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-11.
