Baseball Recap: Charlotte Picks Up Second Consecutive Win

Charlotte barely beat Hastings the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Orioles never let the Saxons get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory on Thursday. Considering the Orioles have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Mason Croley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Christian Powers and Nolan Aapala did most of the damage at the plate: Powers got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Aapala went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Aapala has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ty Bowzer, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Charlotte always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hastings only posted an OBP of .118.

The win made it two in a row for Charlotte and bumps their season record up to 10-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Hastings, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.

Charlotte and Hastings could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Orioles (ranked 223rd) will meet Olivet (ranked 69th) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hastings will challenge Catholic Central at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (525 vs. 139).
