Baseball Recap: Wayne Gets the Win

Wayne hadn't done well against Honeoye Falls-Lima recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Eagles came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 5-2. Five seems to be a good number for the Eagles as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Caleb Celso spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Matthew Huber was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

The victory made it two in a row for Wayne and bumps their season record up to 12-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Honeoye Falls-Lima, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9.

Coming up, Wayne will challenge Waterloo at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Honeoye Falls-Lima, they have already played their next matchup, a 15-0 victory against Batavia on the 4th.
