Football Preview: Somerset Eagles vs. Penns Valley Area Rams
The Somerset Eagles will head out to challenge the Penns Valley Area Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Somerset and eight for Penns Valley Area dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Somerset came up short against Bedford and fell 26-16.
Somerset might have lost, but man, Lane Lambert was a machine: he rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 103 yards on six of ten attempts. The dominant performance gave Lambert a new career-high in rushing yards. A healthy portion of that aerial production (81 yards to be exact) went to Cole Parry.
Even though they lost, Somerset was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 224 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bedford only rushed for 87.
Meanwhile, a victory for Penns Valley Area just wasn't in the cards on Friday as the team wasn't able to take the lead at any point. They had to suffer through a 40-6 loss at the hands of Central. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while the Dragons are ranked 185th).
Somerset's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Penns Valley Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
Things could have been worse for Somerset, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 35-21 loss to Penns Valley Area in their previous meeting back in October of 2023. Can Somerset avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
