Basketball Recap: Woodland Comes Up Short

If Woodland was feeling good fresh off their 84-53 takedown of Meadow Heights last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Woodland Cardinals took an 82-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Charleston Bluejays on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cardinals came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Bluejays are ranked 225th).

Charleston's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tayshon Clark, who went 11-for-17 on his way to 27 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Clark continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Trenez Lane, who almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine boards.

Woodland has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 19-6 record this season. As for Charleston, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

When Woodland and Charleston next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Woodland will face off against Puxico and their 17-game winning streak at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Charleston will try to stop Leopold's three-game winning streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
