Softball Preview: Horn Lake Eagles vs. DeSoto Central Jaguars
Horn Lake is 0-10 against DeSoto Central since April of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Horn Lake Eagles will face off against the DeSoto Central Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. Horn Lake has given up an average of 16.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Horn Lake is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 17th straight game dating back to last season two weeks ago. They lost 15-0 to Oxford.
Meanwhile, DeSoto Central waltzed into their contest on Monday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came out on top against Lake Cormorant by a score of 6-2.
Colby Young spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Makayla Jamison was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Tucker, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Jamison wasn't the only one working in the hit department: DeSoto Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.
DeSoto Central pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Horn Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
