Basketball Preview: Calvary Baptist Academy Patriots vs. Hannan Wildcats
Calvary Baptist Academy is 10-0 against the Wildcats since February of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The two teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Calvary Baptist Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Friday.
Even though Cross Lanes Christian scored an imposing 57 points, Calvary Baptist Academy still came out on top. Calvary Baptist Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against the Warriors and snuck past 60-57. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Calvary Baptist Academy.
Calvary Baptist Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew DeGroff, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. DeGroff hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Vaughn, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, Hannan's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Bloomingdale 69-42.
Hannan's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Eli Chapman, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Cameron Wright who scored nine points along with five assists and five rebounds. Chapman has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last ten times he's played.
Calvary Baptist Academy's win bumped their record up to 10-13. As for Hannan, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Calvary Baptist Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Hannan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Calvary Baptist Academy against the Wildcats in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 90-37 victory. With Calvary Baptist Academy ahead 50-18 at the half, the match was all but over already.
