Basketball Recap: Melbourne Central Catholic Comes Up Short

Melbourne Central Catholic suffered their biggest loss since February 8, 2024 on Friday. They were dealt a 70-39 defeat at the hands of the IMG Academy Ascenders. While losing is never fun, the Hustlers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 561st, while the Ascenders are ranked sixth).

Melbourne Central Catholic's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Grady Bonenberger, who posted ten points and three steals, and Henry Lane, who put up 13 points. Bonenberger is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Matt Belmont was another key player, putting up three points and five boards.

Melbourne Central Catholic dropped their record down to 12-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for IMG Academy, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-4.

Melbourne Central Catholic has already played their next contest, a 55-51 win against Odyssey Charter School on the 3rd. As for IMG Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, an 82-59 victory against Balboa on the 31st.
