Softball Game Preview: West Seattle vs. Holy Names Academy

West Seattle hasn't had much luck against Holy Names Academy recently, but that could start to change on Friday. West Seattle will head out to take on Holy Names Academy at 4:00 p.m.

On Thursday, West Seattle came up short against Seattle Prep and fell 9-4.

West Seattle saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marina Strange, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Holy Names Academy narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Nathan Hale 15-14. The win continues a trend for Holy Names Academy in their matchups with Nathan Hale: they've now won eight in a row.

The team relied heavily on Lee Smedstad, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two triples. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Delanie Gilda was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Holy Names Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in five consecutive games.

The victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 4-7. As for West Seattle, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. West Seattle has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Holy Names Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

West Seattle was able to grind out a solid win over Holy Names Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 10-6. Will West Seattle repeat their success, or does Holy Names Academy has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
