Baseball Recap: Marceline Sets Scoring Season-High Against Brookfield

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Marceline). Everything went their way against the Brookfield Bulldogs on Monday as they made off with an 11-1 win. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Cody Rodgers made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last five matches. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. He has become a key player for Marceline: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 5-11 otherwise.

In other batting news, Marceline got a big performance out of Gage Teeter, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Dax Thomas was another key player, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Marceline always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Marceline's record now sits at 8-12. As for Brookfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Marceline and Brookfield could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings. The Tigers will challenge Carrollton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (344 vs. 138). Meanwhile, Brookfield (ranked 366th) will meet Macon (ranked 99th) at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
