Softball Recap: Lanier Voks vs. Burbank Bulldogs
Lanier extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 6-16-1 in the process. They lost 14-2 to the Burbank Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in March.
Lanier saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jesal Reyes, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
As for Burbank, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.
On Burbank's side, Jalyn Ortiz made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Ortiz a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double.
In other batting news, Gianina Valdez was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Abigale Serafin was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
As of now, neither Lanier nor Burbank have any future games scheduled.
