Softball Game Preview: Homestead Highlanders vs. Slinger Owls

Homestead hasn't had much luck against Slinger recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Highlanders will host the Owls at 4:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Homestead turned things around against Elkhorn on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Elks 6-5.

Homestead saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lauren Strifling, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Strifling a new career-high. Another was Jersey Schmidt, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Homestead was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Slinger entered their tilt with De Pere on Saturday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They had just enough and edged out the Redbirds 3-1.

Slinger pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Homestead, their win bumped their record up to 4-13.
