South Adams had lost ten straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-15 to make it 11. They came up short against the Woodlan Warriors, falling 12-3. The Starfires were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
South Adams got a good showing from Kade Sprunger, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Sprunger has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sty Pyle was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
As for Woodlan, their victory bumped their record up to 9-13. They not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 27th (when they won 19-1).
On Woodlan's side, Jordan Halsey was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, Halsey posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs. Woodlan is undefeated when Halsey posts two or more runs, but 4-13 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Drew Fleek, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two triples. He is becoming a predictor of Woodlan's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 2-1 (and 7-12 when he doesn't). Oliver Adams also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Adams will host Cowan at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games the Blackhawks have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Woodlan, they will welcome Southern Wells at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
