Basketball Game Preview: Burns Broncs vs. Douglas Bearcats

Burns hasn't had much luck against Douglas recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Burns Broncs will take on the Douglas Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Burns is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Friday. They lost 53-29 to Wheatland. Having soared to a lofty 55 points in the game before, the Broncs couldn't push the score so high this time.

Despite the defeat, Burns had strong showings from Shaw Martin, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 10 points, and Duggan Kriz, who posted six points.

Meanwhile, it's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Douglas can now relate to. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 56-53 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bearcats have suffered since January 5, 2024.

Douglas' defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-6. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33 points. As for Burns, their loss dropped their record down to 5-19.

Burns was dealt a bruising 77-32 defeat at the hands of Douglas in their previous matchup back in February. Can Burns avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
