Baseball Recap: Evart Wildcats vs. Manistee Chippewas
After flying high against Manistee on Monday, Evart came back down to earth. The Wildcats took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chippewas on Monday. The Wildcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Chippewas earlier this season, when they won 9-1.
Evart got a good showing from Brendan Magnusson, who struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Evart saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Johnson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Johnson also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Dryson Derscheid was another, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Having lost for the first time this season, Evart fell to 2-1-1. As for Manistee, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evart will head out to face off against Glen Lake at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Manistee, they will venture away from home to take on Ludington at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chippewas are facing the Orioles at the right time seeing as the Orioles are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
