After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Crown Point, Valparaiso was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Portage Indians a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Vikings have won six matchups by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Hannah Kosek looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Elizabeth Kosek was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Megan Sulcer also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Valparaiso kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Portage only managed two.
Valparaiso's record is now 9-5. As for Portage, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.
Valparaiso and Portage should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Vikings (ranked 49th) will meet New Prairie (ranked 158th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Portage will square off against East Chicago Central at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (118 vs. 359).
