Basketball Recap: Kaylee Lake's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Elkhorn North over Skutt Catholic

If Elkhorn North was riding high fresh off their 59-33 takedown of Standing Bear on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Elkhorn North took a 67-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Skutt Catholic SkyHawks on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Elkhorn North can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Skutt Catholic is ranked second).

Several Elkhorn North players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kaylee Lake, who went 5 for 8 en route to 13 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Sahler Smith, who posted ten points.

Elkhorn North has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for Skutt Catholic, they pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.

Elkhorn North wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 55-28 defeat against Gretna East on the 14th. Skutt Catholic has also already played their next contest, a 64-31 victory against Duchesne on the 14th.
