Softball Game Preview: Berry Cardinals vs. South Mecklenburg Sabres

Berry is 0-10 against South Mecklenburg since March of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Berry Cardinals are taking a road trip to take on the South Mecklenburg Sabres at 4:00 p.m. Berry has given up an average of 12.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Berry's offense. They lost 15-0 to Palisades on Tuesday. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Mecklenburg). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Olympic a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. With that win, the Sabres brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Madison Norris made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tia Montgomery, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Samantha Rivas, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

South Mecklenburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .808. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory got South Mecklenburg back to even at 2-2. As for Berry, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Berry suffered a grim 18-1 defeat to South Mecklenburg when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Berry avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
