Recap: Pueblo South Colts vs. Rampart Rams
The Pueblo South Colts's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 72-16 loss at the hands of Rampart. While losing is never fun, Pueblo South can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 266th, while Rampart is ranked 106th).
Despite the defeat, Pueblo South had strong showings from Kyla Cruz, who scored eight points along with five rebounds, and Gracie Gonzales, who scored six points along with two blocks. That's the first time this season that Gonzales posted two or more blocks.
Emily Huxtable continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Rampart, scoring 19 points along with five assists and four steals. Huxtable hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Arabelle Madril, who scored 13 points along with five steals.
Pueblo South has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Rampart, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pueblo South will take on Pueblo East at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Pueblo East focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday. As for Rampart, they will be playing at home against Arapahoe at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Arapahoe is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
