Baseball Game Preview: Kingston Cougars vs. Jefferson Blue Jays

Kingston is 0-7 against Jefferson since April of 2019 but things could change on Monday. The Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Blue Jays at 4:30 p.m. Kingston will be strutting in after a win while Jefferson will be coming in after a defeat.

Kingston is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Bourbon get on the board and left with a 21-0 victory on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Ayden Piel was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Piel was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Kingston let Nathan Eichhorn and Joey Hahn run wild. Eichhorn went 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one double, while Hahn scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Hurley, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5.

Kingston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Jefferson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 5-1 to Ste. Genevieve.

Kingston's victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-6. As for Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7-1.

Kingston suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Jefferson in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
