Corner Canyon quarterback had record-breaking season for Class 6A state champs.

Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.

Isaac Wilson of Corner Canyon (Draper) is the 2023 MaxPreps Utah High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior quarterback led the Chargers to a 13-1 record and Class 6A state championship.

Wilson broke the single-season state record for total offense with 5,901 yards, surpassing former Corner Canyon quarterback Jaxson Dart's mark of 5,886 in 2020. He threw for 4,597 yards and 49 touchdowns against nine interceptions while completing 66.5 percent of his passes. On the ground, he added 1,304 yards and 13 touchdowns on 150 carries.

In a 41-27 win over Skyridge (Lehi) in the state championship game, Wilson completed 15 of 23 pass attempts for 255 yards and two touchdowns to go with 20 carries for 192 yards and three more scores.

Against national No. 1 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) in August, Wilson threw and ran for 434 yards and six touchdowns in a losing effort.

Wilson threw for at least two touchdowns in all 14 games with a season-high six coming in a 51-36 win over Lone Peak (Highland), where he completed 22 of 34 passes for 347 yards and rushed for 150 yards. His season-high for passing yards came in the season-opener during a 55-7 win over Granger (West Valley City) as he went for 469 yards and four TDs.

In four playoff games Wilson threw for 1,236 yards and 12 touchdowns to go with 601 yards rushing and four more scores. Corner Canyon averaged 47.6 points per game and scored at least 35 in every game.

Regarded as a four-star prospect by 247Sports, Wilson committed to Utah in May.

Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
