Basketball Recap: Abbie Harris Key Part of Team Effort in Barons Win

DeKalb won against Fort Wayne Bishop Luers on Wednesday with 57 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Barons secured a 57-53 W over the Garrett Railroaders. The victory continues a trend for the Barons in their matchups with the Railroaders: they've now won five in a row.

DeKalb got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Abbie Harris out in front who posted 16 points and five steals. Harris is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Ellington Sparkman was another key player, putting up 14 points and four steals.

Several Railroaders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sarah DePew, who had 15 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Avery Leech, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

DeKalb's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Garrett, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-2.

Looking ahead, DeKalb will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Fort Wayne Northrop at 7:30 p.m. As for Garrett, they will head out to challenge Angola at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will give the Railroaders their first taste of in-conference action this season.
