Baseball Recap: Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Comes Up Short

Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-5 in the process. They fell 7-2 to the Pillager Huskies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-7 last Thursday.

As for Pillager, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. That looming 7-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

For Pillager's part, Elliott Imdieke made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Imdieke has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Grant Grimsley was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brooks Birchaek, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Coincidentally, Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale and Pillager will both be playing Menahga the next time they take the field. The Huskies will host the Braves at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Bears will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
