Preview: Hillcrest Trojans vs. Heritage Patriots
Hillcrest has been on the road for five straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Heritage Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Saturday, Hillcrest had to suffer through a rough 71-41 loss at the hands of Damien. Hillcrest was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-17.
Despite the loss, Hillcrest had strong showings from McKel Shedrick, who scored 14 points, and Nate Bowden, who scored 9 points. Shedrick scored a full 34.1% of Hillcrest's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Eric Flor, who scored 5 points.
Meanwhile, Heritage pushed their score all the way to 73 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 78-73 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tahquitz. Despite running the score up even higher than they did two weeks ago (60), Heritage still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Heritage got a solid performance out of Aaron Contreras , who scored 31 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden De Leon, who scored 15 points.
Hillcrest's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Heritage, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Hillcrest took their win against Heritage in their previous matchup back in February of 2018 by a conclusive 67-46. Will Hillcrest repeat their success, or does Heritage have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
