Basketball Recap: Estancia Takes a Loss

Estancia easily dispatched Cottonwood Classical Prep last Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Estancia Bears fell just short of the Legacy Academy Silverbacks by a score of 48-45 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bears have suffered since February 1, 2024.

Despite the loss, Estancia still got an impressive performance from Jhenna Valencia, who went 6 for 13 en route to 16 points and six rebounds. Ana Cuevas was another key player, putting up four points and six steals.

Legacy Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Priscilla Cabrales, who posted 11 points. Another player making a difference was Kaleigh Carrasco, who put up 11 points and five assists.

Estancia's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Legacy Academy, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.

Estancia wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 48-37 win against Capitan on the 11th. As for Legacy Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 28-21 defeat against Moriarty on the 11th.
