Amelia Streuber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Canyon del Oro's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sammy Hudgens, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Canyon View faced Cienega in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Jaguars narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Bobcats 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Jaguars have posted since April 3rd.
Canyon View also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Emily Davis gave up a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Makenzie Jones, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Sedona Hernandez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Canyon View's victory was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 26-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Canyon del Oro, their record is now 30-3.
Both Canyon del Oro and Canyon View just can't seem to miss. The Dorados have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Canyon View struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Canyon del Oro was able to grind out a solid victory over Canyon View when the teams last played back in April, winning 6-1. Do the Dorados have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Jaguars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
