Basketball Recap: St. Lucy's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak on the Road

St. Lucy has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 29.39 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Wednesday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 64-20 to the Chino Hills Huskies, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, the Regents can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 859th, while the Huskies are ranked 377th).

Kira Carroll was St. Lucy's leading scorer, having posted six points.

Chino Hills got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brianna Franco out in front who posted 18 points in addition to six boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Franco a new career-high in steals. Kaylee Salce was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.

St. Lucy's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-6. As for Chino Hills, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Lucy's will take on Los Osos at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. St. Lucy's defense has only allowed 29.4 points per game this season, so Los Osos' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Chino Hills, they will challenge Rancho Cucamonga at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Rancho Cucamonga will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Chino Hills surely won't give up without a fight.
