Baseball Recap: Saratoga Falcons vs. Cupertino Pioneers
Saratoga was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Cupertino Pioneers, falling 9-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pioneers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-3 on March 4th.
Doug Bettinger was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Bettinger was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Bettinger wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Chen, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Nathan Lee also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Saratoga's record now sits at 1-6. As for Cupertino, they pushed their record up to 6-5-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Coming up, Saratoga will head out to take on Lynbrook at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lynbrook has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.64 runs per game on average), something Saratoga will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cupertino, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Santa Clara at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cupertino's pitchers better be ready for this one: Santa Clara has averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season.
