Baseball Recap: Mitchell Takes a Loss

Mitchell had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-11 to make it six. They fell just short of the Ellicott Thunderhawks by a score of 16-14. If the Marauders were looking for revenge after losing 19-3 to the Thunderhawks when the teams met back in April of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Mason Cherrie led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and two RBI. Keegan Spofford also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Ellicott, their record now sits at 3-9-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 18, 2024.

On Ellicott's side, Jacob Nikulski was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Nikulski has become a key player for the Thunderhawks: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 0-9-1 otherwise. Edwin Chacon was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Mitchell wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 22-0 loss against Falcon on the 16th. As for Ellicott, they will square off against St. Mary's at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Thunderhawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
