Softball Recap: Oxford Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

Oxford let Shepaug Valley stack four runs on them in the seventh inning on Saturday but luckily Oxford prevailed anyway. The Wolverines sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Spartans. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolverines have posted since May 14, 2024.

Oxford's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Shepaug Valley, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-8.

Looking ahead, Oxford will square off against Woodland Regional at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something the Wolverines surely won't give up without a fight. As for Shepaug Valley, they will face off against Thomaston at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season.
