Basketball Recap: Morningside Academy Now 7-2 over Last Nine Games

If Pine wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Morningside Academy, they should've done a better job of containing Arianah Wallace. The Morningside Academy Eagles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Pine Knights on Thursday, sneaking past 34-31 thanks in part to Wallace, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 boards. She has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played.

Despite the loss, Pine still got an impressive performance from Emily Shirk, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 67.7% of Pine's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Anna Shirk was another key player, putting up two points and six boards.

Morningside Academy is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.8 points per game. As for Pine, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-3.

Morningside Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 54-14 victory against Melbourne Central Catholic on the 24th. Pine has also already played their next matchup, a 43-34 win against Jupiter Christian on the 24th.
